MCNA Dental was a proud participant and community partner at the annual Children's Week event held at the Florida state capitol in Tallahassee on March 26 - 31, 2017. Our representatives joined many other key stakeholders, advocates, and over 4,000 attendees to elevate significant issues affecting children to statewide attention. This year, MCNA Dental once again sponsored two event booths located in the capitol's courtyard and in Storybook Village to promote the importance of good oral health care and services for children.
MCNA Dental's booths attracted hundreds of excited preschool and elementary aged children. While there, they had the chance to meet the MCNA Dental outreach mascot and take pictures with him. Our trained dental hygienists provided in-person oral hygiene education, demonstrating the proper techniques for brushing and flossing. Children were able to practice these activities and ask questions. "We believe all children deserve good oral health, and being able to provide outreach and proper oral hygiene instruction and encouragement at an event of this magnitude increases the reach of our message," said Oteasa-Townsend Hardy, Director of Quality Improvement.
Our representatives took time to connect with all visitors. Each child received a goodie bag containing the MCNA Dental children's book Itty Bitty Baby Teeth, as well as dental kits, hats, t-shirts, and oral health items. They also had access to many of MCNA Dental's proprietary oral health flyers containing useful information about various oral health topics.
MCNA Dental also sponsored the Children's Week awards dinner and reception where members of our Quality Improvement and Community Outreach teams were able to network with other valuable community partners and seek new outreach opportunities. According to Kendra Aracena, Quality Improvement Manager, "Our team looks forward to Children's Week each year as a true celebration of our children. It is a chance to help kids, parents, lawmakers, and other community organizations understand how vital oral health care is for the healthy growth and development of all children, and to further our mission of making children's dental health a national priority."
MCNA Dental today announced that it has received a Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type 2 Report after successfully completing a rigorous independent audit. Our SOC 2 Type 2 report affirms that MCNA Dental's security practices, policies, procedures, and operations meet the standards for security, availability, and confidentiality set forth by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
We have successfully completed annual SOC 2 Type 1 reports for several years. This is the first year that MCNA Dental has received the SOC 2 Type 2 Report, which was issued by the nationwide security, assurance, and compliance firm A-Lign®.
"MCNA Dental is committed to the security, availability, and processing integrity of our systems. The SOC 2 Type 2 Report, which is rapidly becoming an industry standard, involves stricter requirements and uses a more meaningful audit standard than the Type 1 Report," said Daniel Salama, Chief Information and Security Officer for MCNA Dental. "MCNA Dental is proud be an industry leader and to offer our clients the assurance that we maintain the highest level of internal controls and security."
MCNA Dental's pursuit of these reports ensures that we continue to provide services that exceed our clients' expectations amidst ever-changing business requirements. The SOC 2 report provides third-party assurance that MCNA Dental has established and maintains internal controls designed to meet the requirements for the security principles of the Trust Services Principles and Criteria for Security.
MCNA Dental announced today that it has entered into a contract with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare as the sole dental benefits administrator for the Idaho Smiles Medicaid Dental Program. The contract was awarded after MCNA Dental successfully completed a competitive procurement process. The company will begin serving the approximately 280,000 children and adults enrolled in Idaho Medicaid statewide on February 1, 2017.
"MCNA Dental is committed to the nationwide advancement of responsible, culturally-sensitive dental care and services leading to better oral and overall health for all. Continual innovation within our programs and technology is central to what we do and what we accomplish every day on behalf of each of our state partners," said Dr. Jeffrey Feingold, President and CEO of MCNA Dental.
"We are pleased to have this opportunity to join with the Idaho professional dental community and work with dentists and regulators across the state to improve access to vital dental care and services," said Dr. Roger Sanger, Idaho Executive Director for MCNA Dental. "We look forward to being a proactive partner to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare using our proven approach to the management of state Medicaid dental benefit programs."
MCNA Dental will provide access to high quality oral health care for children and adults through an extensive network of dentists and dental specialists. In addition to our strong working relationships with dental providers, MCNA Dental will ensure Idaho Medicaid members receive appropriate dental care and services through our dedicated Case Management and Quality Improvement programs.
MCNA Dental joins with the Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Dentistry and the statewide dental community to ensure that when school is out, sealants are in. MCNA Dental's Summer Sealant Campaign is driving forward to success in preventing dental decay in children through increased placement of dental sealants on the permanent molars of enrollees in the Louisiana Medicaid Dental Program during summer checkups. Sealant Saturday events held by MCNA Dental in partnership with LSU open dental clinic doors outside of normal business hours to provide access to sealants and preventive care for children who do not have an established dental home.
"Early childhood oral disease is entirely preventable. MCNA Dental was founded on the principles of prevention and of quality oral health care for all," said Dr. Jeffrey Feingold, MCNA Dental's founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer. "I am proud of MCNA Dental's powerful partnership with LSU and the success of the Summer Sealant Campaign, and excited to continue working with Louisiana's dental community to host innovative events like our Sealant Saturdays. Together, we will ensure that dental sealants are more fully utilized across the state."
MCNA Dental fully supports recent recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Dental Association (ADA) calling for an increase in the utilization of dental sealants on the primary and permanent molars of children and adolescents. A recent joint report published by the AAPD and the ADA states that children with sealants are up to 80% less prone to cavities than those without them.
Dr. Philip Hunke, Past-President of the AAPD and Plan President of MCNA Dental in Texas, joins MCNA Dental's founder and CEO, Dr. Jeffrey Feingold, in taking action to align the company's network of dental providers with updated AAPD guidelines for dental sealants through ongoing provider education and innovative programs like the Summer Sealant Campaign. The campaign uses targeted, direct outreach to members to encourage increased utilization of sealants and other key preventive services.
"The message from both the ADA and AAPD is clear. Dental sealants are a safe and highly effective defense against the development of cavities and dental decay, and MCNA Dental is committed to increasing their use across our entire network of dental providers,"said Dr. Hunke. "Our prevention-focused dental sealant program is helping MCNA Dental reach more of Louisiana's children who are at risk for childhood dental disease and help them avoid the pain, trauma, and missed school hours that cavities and decay cause."
MCNA Dental's Summer Sealant Campaign is another example of MCNA's alignment with the National Quality Strategy (NQS) for Improvement in Health Care. The NQS was developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality on behalf on the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Summer Sealant Campaign touches all three Aims within the NQS:
- Better Care: Improve the overall quality, by making health care more patient-centered, reliable, accessible, and safe.
- Healthy People/Healthy Communities: Improve the health of the U.S. population by supporting proven interventions to address behavioral, social, and environmental determinants of health in addition to delivering higher quality of care.
- Affordable Care: Reduce the cost of quality health care for individuals, families, employers, and government.
MCNA Dental began serving members enrolled in the Iowa Dental Wellness Plan (DWP) on August 1, 2016, as a dental benefits administrator contracted with the Iowa Department of Human Services. The DWP offers coverage for comprehensive dental benefits to Iowa residents enrolled in the Iowa Health and Wellness Plan.
"We are proud to partner with the Iowa dental community to provide dental benefits and services to members of the Iowa Dental Wellness Plan. Our goal is to offer a choice for quality dental care to these members, supported by the power of our comprehensive Outreach Program," said Shannon Boggs-Turner, Vice President of Operations for MCNA Dental. "MCNA Dental is committed to working with our network of providers to make a positive impact on the oral health of our members."
MCNA Dental is committed to improving oral health outcomes for life through the provision of responsible, high-quality dental health care supported by our fully coordinated Outreach Program. All outreach activities are targeted to reach our members in the communities where they live. MCNA's proactive team provides oral health education and actively assists members in accessing the dental services they need.
MCNA Dental is providing over $25,000 in donations to assist flood victims and dental providers in the 20 parishes of Louisiana declared a federal disaster due to recent record flooding across the state. Additional resources are being made available to assist our participating dentists in their rebuilding efforts, so they can open their offices as quickly as possible.
MCNA Dental provides dental services to children and adults enrolled in Louisiana's Medicaid and CHIP programs.
In partnership with the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, MCNA Dental has provided 4,000 dental hygiene kits to the university for those families who have been left homeless and are being temporarily housed in shelters around the state.
MCNA is also proud to support the efforts of Governor Edwards by donating to the Louisiana Red Cross to help families in need of temporary housing, food, clothing and other necessities, according to Dr. Jeffrey Feingold, President, CEO, and Founder of MCNA Dental.
"Our family, friends, and colleagues have been affected by the flooding. As a graduate of Tulane University, a piece of my heart has always been in Louisiana," said Dr. Feingold. "We will be there to support their recovery."
The Louisiana Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies every day. Prevention is taught in schools, at public events and at speaking engagements. Preparations take place with training for CPR, first aid and more. Volunteers are called to the scene of emergencies to give food, clothing, shelter, and comfort to all people who are affected by disasters.
