MCNA Dental was a proud participant and community partner at the annual Children's Week event held at the Florida state capitol in Tallahassee on March 26 - 31, 2017. Our representatives joined many other key stakeholders, advocates, and over 4,000 attendees to elevate significant issues affecting children to statewide attention. This year, MCNA Dental once again sponsored two event booths located in the capitol's courtyard and in Storybook Village to promote the importance of good oral health care and services for children.
MCNA Dental's booths attracted hundreds of excited preschool and elementary aged children. While there, they had the chance to meet the MCNA Dental outreach mascot and take pictures with him. Our trained dental hygienists provided in-person oral hygiene education, demonstrating the proper techniques for brushing and flossing. Children were able to practice these activities and ask questions. "We believe all children deserve good oral health, and being able to provide outreach and proper oral hygiene instruction and encouragement at an event of this magnitude increases the reach of our message," said Oteasa-Townsend Hardy, Director of Quality Improvement.
Our representatives took time to connect with all visitors. Each child received a goodie bag containing the MCNA Dental children's book Itty Bitty Baby Teeth, as well as dental kits, hats, t-shirts, and oral health items. They also had access to many of MCNA Dental's proprietary oral health flyers containing useful information about various oral health topics.
MCNA Dental also sponsored the Children's Week awards dinner and reception where members of our Quality Improvement and Community Outreach teams were able to network with other valuable community partners and seek new outreach opportunities. According to Kendra Aracena, Quality Improvement Manager, "Our team looks forward to Children's Week each year as a true celebration of our children. It is a chance to help kids, parents, lawmakers, and other community organizations understand how vital oral health care is for the healthy growth and development of all children, and to further our mission of making children's dental health a national priority."
